Wichtige Datei-Endungen

Im Laufe der Jahrzehnte im Computerzeitalter haben sich unter Windows, Mac OS, Linux und Unix allerhand Datei-Endungen angesammelt. Insgesamt sind (vermutlich) mindestes 25.000 Datei-Erweiterung oder Filename Extensions im Umlauf. Da hat niemand mehr einen Durchblick. Gerade im Laufe der Jahre sammeln sich auf der heimischen Festplatte oder auf anderen Datenträgern Dateien an, wo man später gar nicht mehr weiß zu welchem Programm diese eigentlich gehören. Gerade, wenn man sich einen neuen Computer oder Notebook zulegt und die „Eigenen Dateien“ auf den neuen Computer kopiert, dann aber einige der alten Programme nicht mehr installiert hat, hat man diese „Datei-Leichen“ auf der Platte und kann diese überhaupt nicht mehr zuordnen. Da es keinen Standard für die Datei-Endungen gibt, kann jeder Software Hersteller seine eigenen Datei-Kürzel auf den Markt bringen. Deswegen sind allerhand Dateikürzel auch doppelt oder mehrfach vergeben.
